MANILA — Malacañang has vowed to continue its crackdown against sugar hoarders and perpetrators of illegal importation, Press Secretary Trixie Cruz-Angeles said Friday.

Cruz-Angeles further said that they are looking into the situation of sugar shortage if it is “artificial.”

So titingnan pa po natin,” Cruz-Angeles said.

The Bureau of Customs (BOC) prevented the importation of potentially illegal sugar products in Subic, Zambales, with a total tax payment of P45.6 million.

The agency also discovered around 44,000 suspected illegal sugar bags on Wednesday in warehouses in Bulacan and Pampanga, valued at an estimated P220 million. (ai/mtvn)
