MANILA — Three more senators tested positive for COVID-19 Friday (19 Aug 2022).
Sen. Nancy Binay has confirmed that she tested positive for COVID-19 after being exposed to Sen. Joel Villanueva, who also tested positive for the virus.
“After more than two years of consciously observing all protocols to avoid the virus, it is unfortunate that yesterday (August 18), I tested positive for Covid-19,” she said.
The senator said that she is currently in isolation.
“I am currently at home in isolation, and strictly following recommended protocols, including health and safety procedures,” Binay said.
“My family and I are asking for your continued prayers for me and my colleagues in the Senate for our full recovery. As always, prayer is our first line of defense,” she continued.
Sen. JV Ejercito has also earlier confirmed that he acquired the virus.
“Tested positive for COVID-19 according to RT-PCR yesterday morning test, result of which was e-mailed late last night,” Ejercito said.
Meanwhile, Villanueva was supposed to have an out-of-town trip to celebrate his wife’s birthday.
Binay is the seventh senator that acquired the virus since the opening of the 19th Congress.
Senators Alan Peter Cayetano, Imee Marcos, Cynthia Villar, Grace Poe, Villanueva, and Ejercito have earlier tested positive for the virus. (ai/mtvn)
