MANILA — President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. congratulated Filipino Olympian Ernest John “EJ” Obiena on his victory at the 26th Internationales Stabhochsprung-Meeting in Jockgrim, Germany.
On Tuesday, the Filipino pole vaulter won the gold medal in the tournament after clearing 5.81 meters (Wednesday in Manila).
Obiena, 26, quickly acknowledged the President’s post on Facebook.
“Maraming salamat po, President Bongbong Marcos, for the congratulatory message and recognition. I hope I did the country proud,” Obiena said.
Obiena also qualified for the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary.
He made history last month when he won the bronze medal at the 2022 World Athletics Championships.
