MANILA — A “mysterious” man who was accordingly trapped for at least five hours inside a tunnel drainage in Pasig City has been rescued by authorities on Saturday (03 September 2022).

According to the report sent to PCol Celerino M Sacro, Jr., the officer in charge of Pasig city central police station, at around 10:30 a.m on August 31, 2022, Sub-Station 5 personnel received information from a tricycle driver that he heard an unusual sound coming from a drainage located along N. Cruz St., Barangay Pinagbuhatan, Pasig City.

Immediately after receiving the said information, the mobile crew of Sub-Station 5 led by PCpl Jayson R Bilgera went to the area.

Sensing that a person may have been trapped inside the drainage based on the sounds they heard, the mobile crew removed the steel cover of the drainage using a crowbar.

After it was removed, an unidentified male emerged therefrom, carrying a hammer and color green sack containing pair of slippers.

Thereafter, he was brought to the Barangay Security Headquarters of Brgy. Pinagbuhatan, Pasig City for appropriate action.

The “mysterious man” identified himself as Mark Ryan Daig-Digan of N. Valderama St., Brgy. Bambang, Pasig City. He had been inside the tunnel for at least five (5) hours before his rescue.

It was not, however, immediately known how Daig-Digan got inside the tunnel drainage but upon verification, he was subsequently released as he has no derogatory records police said.

“I commend the concerned citizen who, thankfully was very keen and very prompt in notifying the authorities about what he observed. This resulted in the rescue and provision of immediate assistance to Mr. Daig-Digan. I urge the public to continuously report any unusual activity that they may notice so that the police can swiftly act on it, and provide the necessary assistance, thus saving lives and property. We appreciate very much the community’s support and cooperation,” Sacro added. (ai/mtvn)
