MANILA – Press Secretary Trixie Cruz-Angeles called on Congress to provide the Office of the Press Secretary (OPS) with sufficient funds to promptly deliver news, build an effective information system and strengthen OPS’s good relationship with colleagues in the industry.
One of those who supported the call of the Press Secretary was Marikina City Representative Stella Luz Quimbo.
“OPS helps assure the people that the government is addressing their most pressing needs, that there is a government that cares for them especially in times of hardship,” Quimbo said.
“Thus, it is imperative for Congress to review the agency’s programs and activities and work towards securing an adequate amount of resources so that they may effectively disseminate critical information to all 100 million Filipinos all over the country,” she added.
According to Cruz-Angeles, the office’s overall budget for the 2023 National Expenditure Program is P473.1 million.
Personnel services would receive P192.5 million of the total, maintenance and other operating expenditures (MOOE) would receive P275.5 million, and capital outlay would receive P5 million.
“Humihingi kami ng MOOE na PHP240 million para maangat nang konti ‘yung antas ng suweldo ng aming mga worker sa PTV ngunit ang nabigay po sa atin ay P125 million,” she said.
