LAPU-LAPU CITY, Cebu — In line with the vision of Mayor Junard “Ahong” Chan to uplift the quality of life of Oponganons, the Mactan Cebu Ocean City (MCOC) will soon rise to house several modern and state of the art businesses that will serve as gateway for foreign investments in this historic resort city.

This was revealed by Dr. Noli Arnulfo Igano, President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Salug Valley Enterprises and Development Corp. (SEVDC), who said the initial 400-hectare Mactan North Reclamation and Development Project (MNRDP) — which is now rebranded as MCOC — is expected to help solve issues and challenges that the City currently face such as traffic congestion, lack of commercial lands, among others.

The MCOC is a reclamation and development project between the City of Lapu-Lapu and the SEVDC Group, Jan de Nul, Royal Haskoning, Philippine Business Bank, FBO Management Network Inc., and other renowned private institutions.

Igano said the reclamation project in Lapu-Lapu City got its approval on April 27, 2003 during the time of former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.

Thereafter, the Philippine Reclamation Authority (PRA) and the City of Lapu-Lapu entered into a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) for the implementation of the project and the issuance of the Environmental Compliance Certificate (ECC) was secured as well.

Igano expressed hopes that the project will surely be implemented and will no longer be delayed because of the strong support of the mayor and the PRA for the reclamation project that will surely pour in thousands of job and livelihood opportunities.
