OLANGO ISLAND, LAPU-LAPU CITY, Cebu — Highlighting the importance to develop and master the trainees’ innate skills to help them get decent jobs, Mayor Junard “Ahong” Chan has promised the residents of this island that he will build a training center to help and train more people as the historic resort city’s economy is slowly bouncing back.
On Tuesday, September 6, Chan attended the distribution of certificates ceremony of the Lapu-Lapu City government thru the Public Employment Service Office (PESO); Manpower and Human Development Training Center (MHTC) in partnership with the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA).
There were about 319 trainees from Lapu-Lapu City of main island of Mactan and Olango island who successfully completed their skills training.
Lapu-Lapu City has jurisdiction over the eight barangays in Olango island, namely Baring, Caw-oy, Sabang, Santa Rosa, Talima, Tingo, Tungasan and San Vicente, and the islets of Caohagan and Pangan-an.
Chan personally congratulated all trainees for finishing the course and “for a job well done.”
The mayor also entertained the completers as he shared his story of how he also underwent skills training even after he completed college. (ai/mtvn)
