NASIPIT, Agusan del Norte — Stressing that postponing the December 5 barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections or BSKE is unconstitutional, the socialist-humanist Maharlika Solidarity (MASO) has called on the Senate to follow the lead of Senator Robinhood “Robin” Padilla and Senate Minority leader Aquino”Koko” Pimentel III and junk the move after the House of Representatives approved the measure on second reading.
Founded by a descendant of Lapu-Lapu, MASO also concurred with the Commission on Elections (Comelec) in appealing to lawmakers to finalize their decision on the fate of the BSKE before the end of September, as they begin the printing of ballots for the polls scheduled on December 5 this year.
“Nakikiisa ang MASO sa paninindigan nina Senador Robin Padilla, Senador Koko Pimentel at Albay Congressman Edcel Lagman na dapat ituloy ang eleksyon ng barangay at SK,” MASO Secretary General Emon Peligrino told Maharlika TV.
MASO envisioned a “welfare state” with a federal parliamentary government like Canada for the Philippines to uplift the quality of life of Filipinos.
On September 14, the House of Representatives approved on second reading the consolidated measure that will postpone the conduct of BSKE on December 5 this year to the first week of December 2023, extending the terms of the officials next year. (ai/mtvn)
