CEBU CITY — Doubting on the credibility of Department of Social Welfare and Development in this island province, the 44 municipal and city mayors thumbed down the proposed P5.2 billion budget for DSWD-Cebu 2023.
The gargantuan budget includes a P3.3 billion fund for the 4Ps and a P1.3 billion for the social pensions of indigent senior citizens.
The local chief executives claimed that about the P120 million earmarked by DSWD-Cebu for its “supplementary feeding program” had no clear process to determine its beneficiaries.
Further saying that the DSWD did not consult them on the programs they intended to do, the mayors assailed that they usually get blamed for the agency’s inefficiencies.
It was gathered that under the Local Government Code, national government agencies need the Provincial Development Council (PDC) endorsement for their proposed budgets.
DSWD-Central Visayas Director Shalaine Marie Lucero could not be reached for comment as of this posting. (ai/mtvn)
