MANILA — Senator Raffy Tulfo on Wednesday urged the Land Registration Authority (LRA) to investigate the land grabbing that is happening in Palawan and other provinces.

In the Finance Subcommittee hearing, Tulfo also urged the agency to address widespread corruption in the LRA.

Tulfo told LRA Administrator Atty. Gerardo Sirios that it received reports of corruption, which Sirios also confirmed.

According to Sirios, who has been in the LRA for less than a month, he received a marching order from Justice Secretary Boying Remulla to ensure that the ranks of the LRA are clean.

Tulfo shared that powerful people take advantage of the vulnerability of farmers and Indigenous Peoples who will mortgage their land title to a loan shark in exchange for a small amount to cover their needs, such as medicines for a sick family member.
