BUTUAN CITY, Agusan del Norte — Members of the Bagong Paglaum sa Butuan Livelihood Association (BPABLIA) received P420,000 from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) through the Presidential Commission for the Urban Poor (PCUP) as a wholesaler of goods for their proposed livelihood project.
In a statement, PCUP Field Operations Division chief Atty. Ferdinand Iman disclosed that the 28 members of BPABLIA were endorsed to the DSWD after they were officially accredited by the PCUP and linked with the DSWD to acquire the much-needed financial assistance from the national government.
The association members received the funds during simple ceremonies from representatives of the DSWD, Municipal Social Welfare Development (MSWD), Butuan City government, and PCUP led by area coordinator Marites Serrano.
According to Iman, the assistance given to BPABLIA is just part of the PCUP’s mandate of linking and providing assistance to the country’s urban poor even as its new leadership under Undersecretary Elpidio Jordan Jr. has vowed to intensify its initiatives in bringing the country’s marginalized sectors closer to the national government through its line agencies, among them the DSWD, Department of Health (DoH), Department of Labor and Employment and several others.
“With the new PCUP administration, our urban poor can expect a more serious approach to tackling their problems and aspirations as this has been expressed by our beloved President Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos Jr., who has committed his government to focus on poverty alleviation and the betterment of the lives of every Filipino,” the PCUP-FODM chief stressed.
