MANILA — President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s first working visit to the US was hailed as a “home run” by Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri.

Zubiri added that senators now perceive greater security and economic links between the two nations as a result of the president’s visit.

Marcos is now completing his trip to the US, where he spoke to the United Nations General Assembly and spoke with the business community and the Filipino community.

“To borrow a term from America’s favorite pastime, the President has hit a home run,” Zubiri said.

“His message that the Philippines is back in business resonated well, whether in his meetings with business movers or his one-on-one with (US President Joe) Biden, either in the stock exchange or in the United Nations,” he added.

Meanwhile, Senator Francis Tolentino also supported Marcos’ recognition of the US as a defense ally.

“I support President Marcos’ recognition of the United States as our most important economic and defense ally,” the senator said.

“This is not a “pivot” as this mirrors chronicled and deeply-rooted bonds between Filipinos and Americans. There has never been a shift insofar as our historical alliance with the United States is concerned,” he added.(ai/mtvn)
