CEBU CITY — In what could be a “creative solution” to the traffic mess in Metro Cebu, Cebu City Transportation Office (CCTO) executive director Paul Gotiong has eyed the sharing of lanes for motorcycles and bicycles in some areas in the reputed Queen City of the South.
Despite the reservation of some critics that the “shared lanes” of motorcycles and bicycles may cause accidents, the CCTO maintained that lane sharing has been proven effective in other areas, including abroad.
Gotiong disclosed that they plan to have the Cebu South Coastal Road and Natalio Bacalso Avenue going to Imus Road in this city as pilot areas.
He said the CCTO is now preparing the road signages to be installed along the routes.
Maharlika TV gathered that the “shared lanes” will also be connected to the neighboring cities of Talisay and Mandaue.
The CCTO has observed that several reports of motorcycle drivers suddenly overtaking, splitting, or filtering lanes usually cause road accidents. (ai/mtvn)
