MANILA— President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. led the meeting of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) where various government agencies gave reports regarding super typhoon Karding.

“You might notice, I put emphasis on the prepositioning and prepare as much as possible. I am happy to note, that we have many assets, mga sasakyan, mga goods, they are already available, now. What we have to do now is how to deploy these assets, saan ang pinaka-critical,” Marcos said.

The President also said that the country “may have gotten lucky” as the government was prepared for the typhoon.

“Well, I think that we may have gotten lucky at least this time, a little bit. I think it’s clear from what we did these last two days is that very, very important is preparation,” he said.

“Get people out of the areas of danger, put all of your assets that you’re going to use kapag mag-rescue, para mag-relief, put them in place as much as possible. It’s really in the preparation,” he added.

Social Welfare Secretary Erwin Tulfo said that as of 1 a.m., 10,000 to 13,000 families were subjected to preemptive evacuation.

“As we speak, nagdi-distribute na ang DSWD. We need air assets to airlift food items sa Polilio Island at Catanduanes,” Tulfo said. (ai/mtvn)
