MANILA — President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. mourned the death of the five rescuer volunteers who perished during the onslaught of super typhoon Karding last Sunday, 25 September 2022, in San Miguel, Bulacan.
“I am deeply saddened to hear that we lost five good men to Typhoon Karding,” the President said.
Marcos said that “their courage and bravery will live on in our memory.”
The five veteran rescuers have been named by the authorities as George Agustin, Troy Justin Agustin, Marby Bartolome, Jerson Resurreccion, and Narciso Calayag.
A flash flood struck the rescuers, who were from several Bulacan municipalities, as they were carrying out rescue operations around midnight on Sunday in San Miguel town, according to a statement from Vice Governor Alex Castro.
Authorities said that at least eight persons were killed by Karding, which swept through central and southern Luzon on Sunday.
Damage to agriculture was estimated at P1.28 billion.
