PCUP-NCR commissioner reaches out to Sauyo urban poor

QUEZON CITY, Metro Manila — Residents of Barangay Sauyo affected by the Segment 8.2 infrastructure development project that would connect the South Luzon (SLEX) and North Luzon expressways (NLEX), was visited by the Presidential Commission for the Urban Poor (PCUP) under the leadership of Undersecretary Elpidio Jordan Jr as part of the agency’s outreach program which intends to bring the country’s urban poor closer to the government and give them accessibility to the services being provided for their betterment and social upliftment.

The visitation was led personally by PCUP commissioner for the National Capital Region (NCR) Rey Galupo, NCR Field Operations Division assistant chief Dennis Protasio and area coordinator Ed Labaco and welcomed by officials and members of the Informal Settlers Association (ISA) and Nagkaisang Mamamayan ng Barangay Sauyo (NaMaBaSa) led by Mirasol Abacco, Sigfredo Novilla, and others.

Galupo decided to visit the small urban poor community after he learned about their plight and their request for additional assistance to enhance the operations of their livelihood projects that involve handicraft products and local food items, particularly homemade noodles, and means of realizing their urban farming plans.

The PCUP official promised the residents that he would go out of his way to provide much-needed help so that they would be able to continue with their livelihood efforts and obtain a dignified life with the help of the government.

Abacco and Novilla were both elated with the visit by Galupo, whom they said was the first time for a high-ranking official like a commissioner to do so in their small community.
