PCUP validates accreditation renewal of urban poor group in CamSur

QUEZON CITY, Metro Manila — In line with President Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos Jr.’s poverty alleviation program, the Presidential Commission for the Urban Poor under the leadership of Undersecretary Elpidio Jordan Jr. successfully conducted the validation of the renewal of the application for accreditation of members of the Senior Santiago Homeowners Association in Pili, Camarines Sur.

According to PCUP Luzon Field Operations Division Chief Rodel Francisco, the PCUP was instrumental in the amicable negotiations between the Homeowner’s Association with the land owners of the property where they have been residing for the past several years.

“We were able to negotiate for them to be placed under the Local Community Mortgage Program, which would pave the way for them to benefit from the services being provided to the urban poor by the national government,” Francisco disclosed.

Senior Santiago HOA President Eva Jacob gave recognition to the significant role played by PCUP that gave them the opportunity to renew their accreditation and continue to receive support from the agency in resolving their problems regarding their plight as an urban poor organization, particularly on the issue of security of tenure.

Jacob added that the PCUP likewise strengthened their opportunity for livelihood through the agency’s efforts to provide them with leadership and organizational training that would enhance their capability to uplift their lives as part of the country’s marginalized sector.

Meanwhile, PCUP Region V Area Coordinator Victor Allan Ilagan has already endorsed the Senior Santiago HOA’s application to the Accreditation Committee for early deliberation and approval. (ai/mtvn)
