MANILA โ€” President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. may have a state visit in Japan soon, Vice President Sara Duterte-Carpio said.

She said that it was one of the topics she had discussed with Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida as she visited the country for the state funeral of former leader Shinzo Abe.

“[There] was a discussion of the preparations of Japan,” Duterte-Carpio said.

“I understand they are working on a state visit for President Marcos sa (in) Japan.”

Malacaรฑang has not yet officially confirmed the report or given any additional information.

Apart from Marcos’ anticipated visit, Duterte said she and Kishida also spoke about Japan’s assistance programs for the Philippines, such as the “Build Build Build” program of her father, former president Rodrigo Duterte.

Marcos began his first state visits to Singapore and Indonesia earlier this month. In addition, he traveled also to the United States for the UN General Assembly and other events.
