MANILA — After they were not included in the roster of newly-hired and rehired Cabinet members who took their oath early Tuesday before President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., Press Secretary Trixie Cruz-Angeles and Commission on Audit (COA) chairman Jose Calida have decided to step down from their office.

This was confirmed by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin in a media briefing that Cruz-Angeles and Calida have indeed resigned from their respective appointive offices.

“I tendered my resignation this morning, effective end of business hours today. Due to health reasons. It was a pleasure working with you,” Cruz-Angeles said in a statement.

Calida had served as the Solicitor General during the administration of former President Rodrigo Roa Duterte.

The Philippine Star reported that prior to taking the helm of the COA, Calida was Solicitor General, during which his office was flagged by state auditors for over P10.774 million in excess honoraria and allowances to 15 officials, including him.

The same report said the COA also noted that the allowances were not disclosed by the OSG lawyers named in the report.
