MANILA — Condemning the cowardly killing of hard-hitting journalist Percival “Percy Lapid” Mabasa, businessman-lawyer Alex Lopez on Tuesday offered a P1-million reward to anyone who can provide vital information that will lead to the arrest of the perpetrators.
Lopez, son of former Mayor Mel Lopez, pointed out that Percy’s “relentless passion for truth and justice has become an equilibrium for preserving good governance and real public service in the national and local government.”
“We believe that we need to set an example to those who play gods over the lives of the members of the media or of any person, and may this put an end to the senseless killings of journalists,” Lopez said in a statement.
He called on law enforcers for the speedy administration of justice for the 63-year-old journalist.
In the last broadcast of his ‘Lapid Fire’ commentary program over radio DWBL 1242 on September 30, Percy discussed the dangers of red-tagging, among other political topics.
Percy’s brother, Roy Mabasa, was a former president of the National Press Club of the Philippines (NPC) which has also condemned the tragic incident. (ai/mtvn)
