QUEZON CITY, Metro Manila — Social Welfare and Development Assistant Secretary Rodolfo Santos has expressed his agency’s commitment to support the projects and advocacies of the Presidential Commission for the Urban Poor (PCUP) that would enhance the urban poor’s accessibility to services provided by the government as part of the Marcos administration’s poverty alleviation program.
Speaking before the first Coordination Meeting of the DSWD and PCUP under the watch of President Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos Jr., Asec. Santos avowed the DSWD’s full backing with regards to the fulfilment of the PCUP’s mandate of serving the country’s underprivileged, particularly the urban poor.
PCUP chairperson and chief-executive-officer Undersecretary Elpidio Jordan Jr. welcomed the DSWD delegation that attended the coordination meeting, during which the legal basis and mandates of the PCUP as prescribed by the law under Executive Order No. 82 were discussed thoroughly.
Asec. Santos likewise tackled the implementation of possible enhancements or adjustments in the coordination protocols of the PCUP with the DSWD under its new Secretary Erwin Tulfo and the different non-government organizations.
He also expressed amazement over the PCUP’s efficiency and organized implementation of pro-poor programs under the new set of officers led by Usec. Jordan.
In this light, he promised that the DSWD, as supervising agency of the PCUP, will be expending all efforts to upgrade and reengineer the Commission’s capabilities in digitalization and automation, which are also primary targets of achievement by the Marcos administration. (ai/mtvn)
