MANILA — Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Benjamin Abalos Jr. said Wednesday that detained former senator Leila De Lima can use the rooms used by Sen. Bong Revilla and Jinggoy Estrada at the Philippine National Police (PNP) Custodial Center before.

This is for De Lima to recover from the hostage-taking incident that happened last Sunday.

Abalos and President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. are worried about De Lima’s situation.

“Medyo nagpasabi kagabi ‘yong kanyang abogado that they’re going to rethink of our offer for her to, if she wants another facility within the compound itself, sabi nila baka tingnan daw nila ‘yong ibang facility,” Abalos said.

“Kasi alam mo, ang concern kasi ng Presidente dito […] is that it’s a very traumatic experience ‘yong nangyari, syempre mas-que tapos na ‘yan, baka mamaya navi-visualize mo ‘yong nangyari at habang nandoon ka sa room mo,” he added.

“So para ba may peace of mind siya na talagang safe siya at hindi mangyayari, within the compound merong ibang mga facilities na pwede […] Kasi meron pang dalawang rooms doon, ‘yong dating room ni Senator Jinggoy Estrada at saka ‘yong kay Senator Revilla, so pwede naming palinis, paayos kasi parang quarters ng SAF eh. We could offer those,” he continued.

Feliciano Sulayao Jr., a prisoner who attempted to flee the facility, kidnapped De Lima and held her captive. Sulayo went to De Lima’s chamber and held the former senator at knifepoint. The hostage-taker’s two companions were slain by responding policemen. (ai/mtvn)
