MANILA — Agriculture Undersecretary Kristine Evangelista said that the Department of Agriculture and Sugar Regulatory Administration (SRA) are set to issue a suggested retail price (SRP) for refined sugar in the face of the continued increase in sugar prices.

“Tuloy-tuloy ang meeting with the SRA officials, para ma-control ang price, kasi ang objective is to make the sugar available in the market and make sure tama presyo,” Evangelista said.

This is after sugar reached P134 per kilo in a certain supermarket, based on SRA’s monitoring.

“So ang pakikipag-usap namin is a first of a series and will come up with a price that is amenable to all our stakeholders.

Evangelista added that the arrival of imported sugar is expected to reach 150,000 metric tons of sugar.

“Nagsimula na rin ang ating mga millers, so meron na rin tayong local sugar,” she added.

On the price of red onions, Evangelista said she has spoke to the traders and they vowed to sell it for P150/kilo, so the P170/kilo SRP can be followed.
