MANILA — Office of the Press Secretary (OPS) officer-in-charge Cheloy Garafil said that the administration would focus on resolving the dissemination of fake news.
This was after the Pulse Asia survey revealed that 90 percent of Filipinos were exposed to political fake news.
“Ito po ay isang seryosong bagay na tututukan ng OPS. Kaya nga ngayon meron kaming mga programa na ile-lay down in the coming days… kasi gusto rin talaga natin na ma-address itong mga problema ng fake news,” Garafil said.
Garafil stated that the OPS would take a number of actions “in the coming days” to stop the propagation of false information.
“We’ll let you know kasi gusto rin talaga natin na ma-address itong mga problema ng fake news,” she said.
According to a survey conducted by Pulse Asia from September 17 to 21, almost 86 percent of 1,200 adult Filipinos agreed that false news is an issue. (ai/mtvn)
