MANILA — Despite President Marcos’ signing the measure postponing the barangay and SK elections (BSKE) into law, preparations related to it would push through as scheduled a ranking officer of the Commission on Elections said Thursday.

According to Comelec Chairman George Erwin Garcia, it is because there may still be a question in the Supreme Court about postponing the election and so the Commission must be prepared in case the election is continued on December 5, 2022.

“Nagdesisyon po ang Comelec en banc to proceed with all our preparations… In the final analysis, syempre magiging batas po ‘yan, pero of course, the Supreme Court can always say something about the legality and constitutionality of this law,” Garcia said.

The Comelec will issue a resolution to lay out the new dates or schedule of activities for the new election period, gun ban, and others.

Based on the law signed by President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., the new BSKE date is October 30, 2023.

The Comelec will also announce the continuation of voter registration which may start again from the last week of November to the last week of May next year. (ai/mtvn)
