VPSD visits Marilao mayor’s wake, extends her condolences to family

MARILAO, BULACAN — Vice President Sara Z. Duterte on Wednesday (October 12) formally visited the wake of Marilao, Bulacan Mayor Ricardo “Ricky” Silvestre who died in a car accident along Clark Free Port Zone in Mabalacat City, Pampanga last Sunday (October 9).

“Dumalaw tayo ngayong araw sa tahanan ng yumaong mayor ng Marilao, Bulacan na si Mayor Ricardo “Ricky” Silvestre. Ipinaabot ko ang aking taos-pusong pakikiramay sa kanyang naulilang pamilya, mga kaibigan, at mga residente ng Marilao (Today, we visited the home of the late mayor of Marilao, Bulacan, Mayor Ricardo ‘Ricky’ Silvestre. I am extending my sincere condolences to the bereaved family, friends and the residents of Marilao),” Duterte said in her post on her official social media account.

On Tuesday (October 11), the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) also expressed their condolences to the people of Marilao.

“The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) is one with the people of the municipality of Marilao and the province of Bulacan in mourning the passing of Marilao Mayor Ricardo M. Silvestre in an unfortunate car accident,” DILG Secretary Benjamin “Benhur” Abalos, Jr., said in a statement.

“We condole and pray for Mayor Silvestre’s bereaved loved ones and the Marileños for the loss of a great leader who was a reflection of both wisdom and enthusiasm amid decades of public service. His legacy shall remain and will live on in the lives of the Marileños he touched with his brand of leadership,” he added.

Abalos also commended the Philippine National Police (PNP)-Mabalacat Police Station and the CDC Medics for their swift action and response at the scene of the accident as they immediately brought the victims to the nearest hospital.

“We express hope that the mayor’s driver and his secretary, who survived the accident, will be able to immediately recover from their injuries and trauma,” the DILG chief said. (ai/mtvn)
