MANILA — The Department of Agriculture (DA) said that the damage caused by Tropical Depression Maymay and Tropical Depression Neneng in the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), Ilocos Region, and Cagayan Valley has reached P355.63 million.

In the DA’s latest report, it said that up to 15,850 hectares of farms were affected by the two typhoons where a total of 25,297 metric tons of crops were lost.

“Affected commodities include rice, corn, and high-value crops,” the DA said.

The DA added that an estimated 11,928 farmers in three regions were directly affected by the two typhoons.

“The values of damage for ‘Maymay’ and ‘Neneng’ were combined as the two tropical cyclones occurred in a span of one week and affected the same agricultural areas in CAR, Ilocos Region, and Cagayan Valley,” DA said.

The department also said that mobile KADIWA centers are being set up for rolling out in areas affected by ‘Maymay’ and ‘Neneng’ to stabilize prices and supply of agri-fishery commodities. (ai/mtvn)
