MANILA — President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos assured the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) that his administration is supporting the PCG’s modernization efforts.
“As your leader, I assure you that this Administration will always be behind you, supportive of your efforts and initiatives to modernize the Philippine Coast Guard, which will redound to the better delivery of service to the nation,” the President said in his speech during the 121st PCG Founding Anniversary.
The President also oversaw the awarding of prizes to the PCG’s most deserving members at the occasion. Admiral Artemio Abu, the commandant of the Coast Guard, provided assistance to him.
The third-largest contemporary ship in the Coast Guard force, BRP Gabriela Silang (OPV-3801), was also shown around by the chief executive.
Marcos also encouraged the members of the PCG to continue their dedication and persistence in their duties and responsibilities and move full throttle towards the realization of their vision to be a world-class guardian of the sea — committed to saving lives, assure safer maritime transportation, ensuring cleaner seas, and secure maritime jurisdiction.
“With the brave men and women of the Philippine Coast Guard, guarding our shores, I am confident that we will be able to steer our nation in a direction towards safer shores and even onwards to a better, brighter, and more prosperous future,” Marcos said.
The PCG is the country’s oldest and only humanitarian armed service since its inception in 1901. (ai/mtvn)
