Abalos throws full support to PCUP’s upcoming LGU Forum

Mandaluyong City Mayor Benjamin Abalos Sr.

MANILA — Mandaluyong City Mayor Benjamin Abalos Sr. has expressed his full support to the Presidential Commission for the Urban Poor (PCUP)’s Local Government Unit Forum that would encourage the participation of LGUs across the country.

Being the first-ever LGU Forum to be conducted by the PCUP this coming Tuesday (October 25, 2022), LGUs in the National Capital Region (NCR) and a select number LGUs from Luzon, are expected to join the conference that would enhance the partnership between the Commission and local government chief executives (LGCEs) in its bid to provide much-needed service and assistance to the marginalized sectors, particularly the urban poor.

PCUP chairperson and chief-executive-officer Undersecretary Elpidio Jordan Jr. was elated with the promise of support from Abalos, saying that he believes this would trigger more support from other LGUs in the fulfillment of the PCUP’s mandate of helping and protecting the country’s underprivileged families.

“I am happy that the Mayor is so easy to talk to and I feel that the reason behind this is because he is in tune with our President’s advocacy of increasing opportunities for Filipinos to have a better life through pro-poor initiatives and efforts to uplift their plight from poverty to a brighter future,” Usec. Jordan pointed out.

Abalos agreed to attend the LGU Forum in Quezon City while adding that he would do everything in his power to ensure that the conference is attended by all of NCR’s 16 city mayors and other local government executives (LGEs) from Luzon.

He likewise vowed full support to the upcoming Urban Poor Solidarity Week (UPSW) in December by agreeing to host the final activity of the week-long event in Mandaluyong.

He stressed that the PCUP plays an important role in President Bongbong Marcos’ pro-poor programs and unity efforts that would unite the government and all Filipinos in a holistic approach to dealing with and resolving the country’s concerns regarding poverty and economic recovery. (ai/mtvn)
