MANILA — President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. will lead the culminating activities in the Masskara Festival in Bacolod City on Sunday, 23 Oct 2022.
With the COVID-19 outbreak posing obstacles to the nation’s tourism industry, the President’s attendance at the internationally recognized festival is a testament to his dedication to boosting local tourism.
In a statement on Friday, Marcos encouraged Filipinos to take part in the yearly celebration and simultaneously visit Bacolod, which is dubbed the “City of Smiles.”
“This world-renowned festival was conceived to counter the despondency brought about by the challenges of the time. Today, as we find ourselves facing a similar dilemma, let this year’s festivity resonate ever so deeply and find even greater meaning in its joyful observance,” the President said.
“May the vivid colors and smiles so common and abundant during the festivities serve as declarations of resilience, even as we tackle our deepest concerns and overcome our greatest hurdles, especially now that we are steadily gaining grounds on the difficult task of nation-building,” he pointed out.
Marcos is hopeful that the Philippines would be able to raise its tourism numbers to pre-pandemic levels through the Department of Tourism’s measures, which will provide job opportunities and spur economic growth.
The First Lady Louise “Liza” Araneta-Marcos and Vice President Sara Duterte-Carpio are also expected to attend the celebrations with the President. (ai/mtvn)
