Caloocan ISF group seeks PCUP accreditation to receive gov’t assistance

QUEZON CITY, Metro Manila — Informal settler families (ISFs) from Caloocan City reached out to the Presidential Commission for the Urban Poor (PCUP) led by its chairperson Undersecretary Elpidio Jordan Jr. for the accreditation of their urban poor organization that would pave the way for government assistance in their quest for the betterment of their lives and acquiring a secure future under the administration of President Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos Jr.

The Silver Eight Neighborhood Association (SENA) visited the PCUP to ask the help of the Commission with the directive of its chairperson to course through the Office of the Commissioner for the National Capital Region (NCR) in expediting their group’s application for accreditation so that they could be assisted by the PCUP in the resolution of issues regarding the acquisition of a 2.5-hectare lot owned by a private corporation in Barangay 167 in Llano, Caloocan City.

Composed of 362 families, SENA was accompanied by a representative from the Caloocan City Housing and Resettlement Office (HARO) under the leadership of former District I representative and now city mayor Dale ‘Along’ Malapitan.

According to SENA president Evelyn Bungay, they have been prompted to ask assistance from the PCUP because they are requesting that they be given the chance to acquire the lots on which their residences are located and have been living for the past 13 years or so.

For his part, PCUP NCR Commissioner Rey Galupo promised that he would be doing his utmost in helping the ISFs so that their rights would be respected even as he stressed that he would ensure that the accreditation of their organization is accomplished at the soonest possible time.
