MANILA — Just like a telenovela, if not a suspense action-thriller, another person of interest (POI) in the killing of hard-hitting broadcaster Percy Lapid arrived past 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) from Puerto Princesa in Palawan escorted by operatives of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) “in full battle gear.”
Former National Press Club (NPC) president Roy Mabasa quipped that looking at developments in his brother’s case feels like “watching a telenovela” but expressed determination to seek justice, no matter how long it takes.
According to Ariel Fernandez’s report on Super Radyo dzBB, the POI was wearing a helmet and a bulletproof vest.
He was reportedly between 35 to 50 years old and was in handcuffs when escorted by NBI operatives “in full battle gear.”
The POI is now under NBI custody.
To recall, on Saturday, October 29, Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin “Boying” Remulla divulged that the Department of Justice (DOJ) was looking into two POIs who could be the masterminds behind the “Percy killing” and the alleged middleman.
“We are saying masterminds, in the plural. We’re drawing out two persons of interest as masterminds, but we cannot say their names now because we have to determine everything, and we do not want to violate any rights of anybody,” Remulla earlier said. (ai/mtvn)
