MANILA — Support from the government will continue to sectors affected by inflation and calamities through cash aids or conditional cash transfers, and fuel subsidies, the Office of the Press Secretary said on Friday.

OPS said it is part of the efforts of the administration of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. to alleviate the plight of the affected sectors.

Inflation was recorded at 7.7 percent in October 2022 which is 0.8 percent higher than in September, however, it is still within the government’s target of 7.1 to 7.9 percent, according to the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA).

NEDA explained that this was caused by the situation overseas, including the kicking of global inflation, the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine, the impact on the global economy of the COVID-19 pandemic; and crises facing our country such as the damage caused by consecutive typhoons.

Meanwhile, to help reduce the impact of flooding, landslides, and other damage caused by water, the government’s priority is to fix the water resource management system.

Earlier, the President said that it is necessary to establish a Department of Water Resources. (ai/mtvn)
