MANILA — The plot thickens, so to speak, as the National Bureau of Investigation on Tuesday, said it is eyeing the possibility that there may be a more powerful mastermind than suspended Bureau of Correction (BuCor) chief Gerald Bantag behind the killing of broadcaster Percy Lapid.
Former National Press Club (NPC) president Roy Mabasa also believes that there could be more masterminds in the dastardly slaying of his brother who was a hard-hitting broadcaster.
Percy Lapid’s real name was Percival Mabasa.
“We are optimistic and asking for prayers and continued support for identifying more masterminds behind Bantag,” Mabasa said.
“Sana po ay umpisa na ito upang mapalakas ang proteksyon sa mga mamamahayag na ipinaglalaban ang katotohanan.Gaya po ng palaging sinasabi ni Ka Percy, “Ang paglalahad ng katotohanan ay di katapangan kundi isang obligasyon,” Mabasa stressed.
He thanked the Department of Justice (DOJ), the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), the NBI, the Philippine National Police (PNP), and “most of all” the supporters of his slain brother.
This developed as the Department of Justice (DOJ) is bent on filing a hold departure order against Bantag and BuCor official Ricardo Zulueta who were earlier tagged as masterminds.
“We are not discounting that possibility na bukod pa kay Director General Bantag na merong puwede na ma-implicate sa kasong ito (that aside from Director General Bantag, there would be someone else who would be implicated in this case),” NBI supervising agent Atty. Eugene Javier bared when interviewed by GMA News’ Unang Balita.
For his part, Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin “Boying” Remulla on Tuesday, November 8, said an immigration lookout bulletin order is no longer needed.
“Actually, there’s no need because they’re public officials. They cannot leave the country without a travel authority,” Remulla said.
Bantag was appointed as BuCor chief by then President Rodrigo Roa Duterte. (ai/mtvn)
