CEBU CITY — In line with her vision to accelerate tourism activities and spur economic progress in the island province of Cebu, Governor Gwendolyn Garcia has disclosed plans to build a commercial airstrip with a runway of 1.2 kilometers inside a 7.7-hectare property of Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (Tieza) in the first class municipality of Dalaguete (pronounced as Dalagit).

According to Sugbo News, the Cebu Capitol’s media arm, the Dalaguete airstrip will be Cebu’s first commercial airstrip in the south of Cebu island.

Garcia reportedly aims to elevate it into an airport someday like those commercial airports that are under development in Bantayan and Camotes islands in northern and eastern Cebu, respectively.

On Monday, November 7, Garcia and Tieza general manager and chief operating officer Mark Lapid inspected the proposed site of the airstrip.

It was also gathered that Tieza is eyeing the redevelopment and reopening of two beach properties in south Cebu as prime tourism destinations.

Lapid revealed that these are the Argao Beach Club, now known as Dalaguete Beach Park and located at the boundary of the two local government units, and the Panagsama Beach in Barangay Basdiot in Moalboal town. (ai/mtvn)
