UPSW highlights Marcos admin’s poverty alleviation program

QUEZON CITY, Metro Manila — It’s all systems go for the Urban Poor Solidarity Week (UPSW) in Mandaluyong City with five major activities to be held for the annual celebration where participants will include accredited urban poor organizations (UPOs) as well as stakeholders and partners from the national government and private sector.

Hosted by the Presidential Commission for the Urban Poor (PCUP) under its new administration led by Undersecretary Elpidio Jordan Jr., the week-long event aims to promote a greater understanding of the issues and problems regarding urbanization, urban poverty, and other related concerns.

Usec. Jordan enthused that this year’s UPSW will hopefully foster stronger unity, inclusive dialogue, and broader cooperation among government agencies, non-government organizations (NGOs), and urban poor communities across the archipelago who will focus on specific policies and programs aligned with the poverty alleviation program of the Marcos administration under the leadership of President Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos Jr.

The main activity expected to banner the UPSW’s goal of achievement includes the launching of the ‘Piso Ko, Bahay Mo’ program, which aims to provide decent housing to urban poor families through a savings mobilization initiative in partnership with the PCUP, concerned government agencies, and private sectors.

Aside from this, recognition will be given to distinguished stakeholders who have made outstanding contributions and efforts in alleviating the plight of the urban poor through remarkable programs and services that promote the well-being of the country’s urban poor communities. (IA/mtvn)
