MANILA — Acknowledging Brunei’s Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah’s promise of continuing support to President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s efforts to ensure peace and stability in Mindanao, the socialist humanist Maharlika Solidarity (MASO) on Sunday hailed the gesture of the influential Muslim nation.

In a statement, MASO expressed hopes for lasting peace and progress in Mindanao with the strong support of Brunei and other Muslim countries adhering to democracy and amicable relations.

“We will continue to support your government’s efforts in ensuring peace and stability through various initiatives in the southern Philippines including our participation in the unification and modification assistance,” Bolkiah told the President during their bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the 40th and 41st ASEAN Summit and Related Summits in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

PBBM also recognized the role the Brunei Sultanate played in the peace process in Mindanao which he said even continued despite the Covid-19 pandemic.

MASO noted the vital role of Brunei as a member of the International Monitoring Team and the independent decommissioning body in the said peace process.

Ali G. Macabalang, news editor of Philippine Muslim Today who once wrote for the Manila Bulletin for 26 years and the Philippine Daily Inquirer for seven years and who was previously two-time executive director of the government-run Bureau of Public Information for eight years has accepted the challenging task as MASO Vice President for Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).
