MANILA — Following allegations by suspended Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) chief Gerald Bantag that the real mastermind in the killing of hard-hitting broadcaster Percy Lapid was convicted drug lord German Agojo, the Philippine National Police (PNP) on Monday said it will investigate its veracity.
Earlier, the beleaguered suspended BuCor chief, who was appointed by then President Rodrigo Roa Duterte, claimed that it was Agojo who ordered the killing of Percy Lapid, whose real name was Percival Mabasa.
“‘Yung kanyang allegation regarding dito po sa German Agojo po ay iimbestigahan po ‘yan at titignan din po ng PNP at NBI (National Bureau of Investigation) ‘yan,” PNP spokesperson Police Colonel Jean Fajardo said when interviewed by GMA News’ Unang Balita.
Bantag strongly denied that he had a hand in the killing of Percy Lapid.
“Attention Lapid family, ‘yung pumatay po kay Percy Lapid ay tauhan nitong Agojo … Anong papel niya sa buhay? Tauhan niya daw ‘yung pumatay na si Escorial at Villamor na kaibigan niya, tauhan nitong si Agojo. Nakikita ninyo ba ang koneksyon? Ito ba pag-uutusan ko ba ito?” Bantag said.
Meanwhile, Percy’s brother former National Press Club (NPC) president Roy Mabasa has appealed to the public to not be distracted by what be said could be diversionary tactics.
“We demand that Mr. Bantag abide by the rule of law, follow the judicial process and present his side in the proper forum. We also challenge him to help convince his deputy, Jail Officer Zulueta, to come out of hiding and face the charges,” Mabasa said. (I. Amigo/MTVN)
