MANILA — Less than a month after being appointed as the acting General Manager of the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA), President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. transferred the son of former Transportation secretary Arthur Tugade in Atty. Jose Arturo Tugade as the new head of the Land Transportation Office (LTO).

Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista confirmed the appointment of Tugade.

“I come here today to announce the appointment of Atty Jose Art ‘Jay Art’ Tugade as the new chief of the Land Transportation Office. While Atty. Tugade’s appointment was announced a few weeks ago, we have come to a conclusion that he is best suited for the very challenging job in the LTO,” Bautista said.

Tugade replaced Teofilo Guadiz III who was given the new position of Assistant Secretary of the DOTr Road Sector.

He promised to solve the corruption within the LTO.

“In order to address corruption, we will take steps to improve transparency and reduce, if not eliminate, human intervention. To this end, we shall exert all efforts to digitalize our agency,” he said.

Jay Art also worked in the government of former president Rodrigo Duterte.
