CEBU CITY — It may appear unorthodox but the Daanbantayan Mayor and League of Municipalities of the Philippines (LMP) Cebu Chapter president Sun Shimura asked the mayors in Cebu island province to buy K9 dogs to help combat the illegal drugs menace.

Shimura made the call to his fellow local chief executives as they are about to pass a resolution that would support Governor Gwendolyn Garcia’s all-out war against drugs.

“We are urging the mayors with seaports to also be serious with this resolution in which if ever they can procure K9 dogs,” Shimura said.

He expressed belief that the K-9 dogs will be very useful in the anti-drugs campaign.

As mayor of the first-class municipality located at the northernmost tip of Cebu province, Shimura earlier said he and members of the LMP-Cebu agreed on the need to implement a “tourism circuit” to help promote Cebu’s tourism industry to other parts of the country. (ai/mtvn)
