LAPU-LAPU CITY, Cebu — Anticipating the influx of Catholic devotees and visitors during the fiesta after three years of limited celebration due to the pandemic, Mayor Junard “Ahong” Chan issued on Wednesday an executive order suspending classes in all public schools and suspending work in the city government on November 21, 2022.
In his Executive Order No. 2022-58, Chan noted that the influx of devotees and visitors who will celebrate the fiesta with the Oponganons may cause traffic congestion and difficulties in getting transportation to and coming from this historic resort city.
However, the mayor granted optional suspension of classes in all private schools and learning institutions.
Moreover, Chan said the suspension of work will not cover those involved in emergency response, peace and order maintenance, and traffic management, among others.
Private business establishments and branches of national government agencies in this city will also have the option to suspend work in their respective areas of operation. (ai/mtvn)
