LAPU-LAPU CITY, Cebu — Apparently believing in the age-old dictum that “cleanliness is next to Godliness,” Councilors Annabeth “Mama Abeth” Cuizon and Celestino “Tino” Aying have successfully pushed for a Clean and Green competition among the 30 barangays in this historic resort city.

Cuizon and Aying pointed out the importance of preserving cleanliness and orderliness which entails social participation.

“We endeavor to have garbage-free streets and corners, clean waterways, graffiti-free infrastructure, beautified sidewalks, and center islands,” they said in their resolution.

They stressed that the cleanliness drive should be a unified undertaking among the city, barangay officials, constituents, and different sectors.

The City Council passed the resolution without any opposition on Wednesday, November 16.

The resolution has directed the Lapu-Lapu City Environment and Natural Resources Office (LLCENRO) and the Solid Waste Management Board (SWMB) to formulate and launch an annual clean and green contest to be participated by the 30 barangays.

“As a tourist destination and to maintain the sustainability of our city, we need to ensure that waste management is an integral part of our lifestyle,” Cuizon and Aying further said.
