MANILA — At least 4,000 informal settler families (ISFs) stand to benefit from a housing project in Tanauan City under President Ferdinand “Bongbong” R. Marcos Jr.’s Pambansang Pabahay para sa Pilipino Program.

Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) Secretary Jose Rizalino Acuzar and the Tanauan City Mayor Nelson Collantes on Tuesday led the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding and groundbreaking ceremony right at the proposed project site in Barangay Sambat.

The project is the first in Batangas province under the President’s Pambansang Pabahay para sa Pilipino Program which aims to address the 6.5 million housing backlog.

Composed of 16 medium rise buildings, the project would benefit at least 4,000 ISFs. Various amenities like school, playground, health center, and multi-purpose hall are also part of the planned development.

The housing project site is strategically located near the New Tanauan City Hall, Downtown, Trading Post, and STAR Tollway, providing beneficiaries with easy access to job and livelihood opportunities.

“Ang kagandahan nito, paglabas ng bahay malapit lang sa trabaho,” Secretary Acuzar said.

In his remarks, Mayor Collantes sought Secretary Acuzar’s help to fulfill the dream of his constituents to have a house of their own–stressing the local goverment cannot do it alone.

“Binuksan namin ang lahat ng pinto sa Lungsod ng Tanauan dahil gusto namin maramdaman niyo na kailangan namin kayo [national government],” Mayor Collantes said.

Secretary Acuzar stressed that having aligned efforts among the national and local government units is key to ensuring the housing program’s success.

“Dahil sa lubos na kasipagan ni mayor at gigil na gigil mapatayo ang pabahay, maaasahan niyo kami sa DHSUD na tututukan namin ang proyektong ito,” Secretary Acuzar said.

The Marcos administration’s flagship housing program aims to address the housing gap by building 1 million housing units per year in the next six years. (ai/mtvn)
