MANILA — Believe it or not but Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin “Boying” Remulla has revealed that suspended Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) chief Gerald Bantag personally told him that he was digging for Yamashita treasure at the New Bilibid Prison (NBP).
Remulla claimed that Bantag told him about it around August or September when they were still apparently in good terms.
“By the way, that was supposed to be a treasure hunt for Yamashita treasure. Originally. I was told by Director General Bantag about it. And I told him to stop it. I told him to stop it,” Remulla said on Friday, November 18, adding he found the excuse to be “ridiculous.”
Bantag, who is tagged as mastermind in the Oct. 3 killing of hard-hitting broadcaster Percy Lapid, had dared Remulla to resign as DOJ chief, saying the latter was using the case to cover the drug-related issue hounding his son, Juanito Remulla III, who was arrested in connection with the alleged importation of P1.3 million worth of kush or high-grade marijuana.
