LAPU-LAPU CITY, Cebu — Seeing a bright ray of hope for lasting peace and prosperity in Southern Philippines, the socialist humanist Maharlika Solidarity (MASO) on Thursday commended the first Congress-Bangsamoro Parliament Forum that tackled the strengthening ties between the national government and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).

MASO described the Congress-BARMM convention on Tuesday, November 15, in Pasay City as another milestone in the implementation of the Bangsamoro Organic Law (BOL) in line with the vision of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. to sustainable socioeconomic development in the region.

The national government allocated P64.8 billion from the proposed 2023 national budget.

“We believe that lasting peace and progress will soon be achieved for our Muslim brothers and sisters in BARMM under the PBBM administration,” MASO said in a statement.

Ali G. Macabalang, the news editor of Philippine Muslim Today who once wrote for the Manila Bulletin for 26 years and the Philippine Daily Inquirer for seven years and who was previously two-time executive director of the government-run Bureau of Public Information for eight years, has accepted the challenging task as MASO Vice President for Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).

It was also gathered that there will also be P5 billion for a Special Development Fund for the rebuilding, rehabilitation, and development of the conflict-affected ethnic communities in the BARMM; and P4.6 billion in taxes, fees, and charges.

During the inauguration of the 80-member Bangsamoro Transition Authority (BTA) last August 12, PBBM vowed to fully support the legislative body until it completes all of its deliverables by June 30, 2025.

The President, however, stressed that there will be no more extension of the BTA’s transition period once the Bangsamoro Parliament holds its first election in May 2025. (ai/mtvn)
