MANILA — Despite the receipt of subpoena by suspended Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) chief Gerald Bantag’s lawyer, the tagged mastermind of the deaths of broadcaster Percy Lapid and alleged middleman Jun Villamor may not appear on its first hearing on Wednesday, November 23.

After receiving the subpoena at the Department of Justice (DOJ), Atty. Rocky Balisong, Bantag’s lawyer, said on Monday, November 21, it is not certain that Bantag will attend the hearing.

“Pero titignan namin kung pwede naman na ipa-subscribe sa other prosecutors… Siguro hindi na kailangan isama,” Balisong said.

Bantag, who is tagged as mastermind in the Oct. 3 killing of hard-hitting broadcaster Percy Lapid, had dared Remulla to resign as DOJ chief.

He claimed that the DOJ chief was only using the case to cover the drug-related issue hounding his son, Juanito Remulla III, who was arrested in connection with the alleged importation of P1.3 million worth of kush or high-grade marijuana.

But Remulla said that before Percy Lapid’s death, the broadcaster was making an expose about a “Cinderella man” apparently referring to Bantag who allegedly amassed properties during his stint as BuCor chief. (ai/mtvn)
