MANILA — The House of Representatives has approved on third and final reading the bill that provides protection, security and benefits to those working in the media industry.
With a vote of 252, the Lower House approved House Bill 454 which is a consolidation of various bills.
The bill aims to provide a minimum compensation to media workers that is not less than that set by Regional Tripartite Wage and Productivity Board.
Under House Bill 454, additional pay should be given for overtime and night shifts.
They must also be included in the Social Security System, Home Development Mutual Fund or Pag-IBIG Fund and Philippine Health Insurance Corp.
The proposal also promotes the hazard pay of P500 per day.
The employer must also ensure that members of the media who will be assigned to dangerous coverages have safety gear such as bulletproof vests and protective equipment.
They will also be given P200,000 death benefit, P200,00 disability benefit and P100,000 medical insurance.
They also have to become regular employees after six months.
