CYBERCOPS NAB 2 NIGERIAN ONLINE LOVE SCAM SUSPECTS IN LAS PIÑAS CITY

MANILA — Three suspects including two Nigerian nationals who were engaged in an online love scam were arrested by Philippine National Police Anti-Cybercrime Group (ACG) operatives during an entrapment operation on Saturday afternoon in Las Piñas City.

Chief PNP, Police General Rodolfo S Azurin Jr said that one of the arrested suspects is a 23-year old who goes with a “JD” alias.

The suspects were nabbed in a joint police operations of Southern District Anti-Cybercrime Team (SDACT) and Las Piñas City Police Station for Violation of Article 315 of the Revised Penal Code (Swindling/Estafa) in relation to Section 5(a) and (b) and Section 6 of Republic Act 10175 also known as “Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012”.

According to initial report, the complainant is a 55-year-old female who allegedly was befriended by a certain “Philip Brian” in one social media site, and their online affairs continued using smart mobile phone application.

Through use of deceitful words and false promises, the suspect borrowed money from the female complainant in the total amount of P230,000 through money transfer.

Investigation further disclosed that after few days, the suspect continued to ask money from the complainant. A total of eight (8) money transfers were allegedly made by the victim with four transactions claimed in Pulang Lupa Uno, Las Piñas City and the rest at a mall also in the city.

PNP Public Information Chief, Col. Redrico Maranan said they recovered from the place of the suspects one iPhone 11, one iPhone XS Max and one Techno Spark Mobile phone.

The suspects were brought to the Southern District Anti-Cybercrime Team for documentation and filing of appropriate charges. (ai/mtvn)
