LAPU-LAPU CITY, Cebu — Described by colleague Councilor Annabeth Cuizon as an “epitome of a true servant,” Councilor Nelson Yap passed away at the age of 68.

Cuizon disclosed that Yap served the Oponganons with integrity and compassion. Opon is the old name of this historic resort city.

“Surely, the Oponganons will miss him. With his passing, we have lost a man of honor,” Cuizon said.

On his Facebook Page, Mayor Junard “Ahong” Chan expressed shock and sadness over the demise of his Kaabag partymate whose family has yet to release a statement regarding the cause of Yap’s death.

Chan noted that Yap has been serving the public for 25 years and “has touched the lives of many Oponganons.”

It was gathered that Yap was a city councilor for six terms starting from 1998-2001, 2001-2004, 2004-2007, 2016-2019, and 2019-2023. (ai/mtvn)
