MANILA — Senator Bong Revilla Jr. said that there is nothing wrong with the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Benhur Abalos asking senior police officers to submit their resignations.

Abalos demanded the resignation of full Colonel and General-level members of the Philippine National Police (PNP) on Wednesday (04 January 2023) in an effort to cleanse the ranks of the PNP amid rumors of connivance of some members of the police force with drug traffickers.

The Secretary claimed that this would finally put to rest allegations that senior police officers were involved or in cahoots with drug traffickers.

Abalos asserted that individuals who have nothing to conceal won’t have any trouble presenting their polite resignations.

“This will show that everyone is accountable and no one is untouchable,” Revilla said. “Even the Chief PNP and chaplains are not spared.”

“Ipinapakita nito na kaisa ang lahat sa pagbabalik ng tiwala ng publiko sa pulisya – especially the highest ranking officer,” the lawmaker said.
